1: The web site asks for a Purchase Order Number when I place a sales order. What if I don’t use Purchase Order Numbers?
A: The Purchase Order Number is a required field. If you do not use Purchase Order Numbers, simply enter your name, initials or date. This is true for any required (*) field.

2: My printer is printing pages with lines on them?
A: Check toner cartridge...
• Is it empty or near empty? An empty/near empty cartridge will sometimes produce lines on pages
• Change the toner cartridge. This will not affect the performance if the cartridge is not defective. If the new cartridge corrects the problem, contact your IPS sales representative for RMA information to return the defective cartridge for credit / replacement.
A: Is this a multifunction device? If copies and scans have lines but prints do not, there is most likely something on the scanner glass. Click here for detailed information on cleaning the ADF

3: My HP CM4730 is not responsive and has a '?' on the display screen.
A: First check the transfer kit on the left side of the machine, where you install the toner. Open the door and lower the transfer kit belt. Check and make sure there is not a full sheet of paper on the transfer belt. If there is, remove the sheet of paper and cycle the power.

4: I installed a toner cartridge and I'm getting a 10.x Memory Supply Error
A: The electronic chip on the cartridge is defective. Install another cartridge. Contact your IPS sales representative for RMA information to return the defective cartridge for credit / replacement.

5: I'm getting a 79.x or 49.x error on my display.
A: This is most likely caused by a bad or corrupt job being sent to the printer. It may be caused by a variety of issues, bad file type or incorrect paper type are two common causes. Cycle the power on the machine and clear the job(s) from the print query. Check printer / paper settings, resend the job.

6: My M4345 states “remove paper jam from top cover area.” I cannot find the paper jam.
A: Open the printer and remove the toner cartridge. The paper is most likely hidden under the toner.

7: My fax device is not sending faxes.
A: Make sure a dialing prefix (ex. 9 or 1) is being used if it is necessary.
> Back to list of Frequently Asked Questions

8: My print device jams when using card stock or heavy weight paper.
A: Most HP printers provide a pull open tray labeled Tray 1 or MP tray to accommodate heavier weighted papers. This will “straighten” the paper path so thicker paper will not be bent so much as to produce jams.
> Back to list of Frequently Asked Questions

9: My printer states “toner low”. Will it continue to work?
A: Yes. Toner low is a warning that the toner will be empty soon and will not stop the printer from working.
> Back to list of Frequently Asked Questions

10: My device states “Perform printer maintenance”. Will it continue to work?
A: Yes. HP devices advise you of a required maintenance. Your print device shouldn’t stop printing before service can be performed.
> Back to list of Frequently Asked Questions

11: My scanned PDF documents are too large when I email them. Can I make them smaller?
A: Yes. On newer HP MFPs, press “optimize text/picture” inside of the copy mode. Then select text.
> Back to list of Frequently Asked Questions

12: My printer has a “50.x” error and will not work.
A: Turn printer off and wait 10 minutes before turning back on. If error returns, call for service.
> Back to list of Frequently Asked Questions

13: My M4345 or CM4730 is stuck at the “hp invent” start up screen after restarting.
A: Allow the start up screen to run for at least 5 minutes. HP’s newer devices are very software intensive and require a longer time to become ready. If the screen last for more than 10 minutes, call for service.
